AWS Electronics Welcomes Five New Apprentices to Newcastle-under-Lyme Facility
‘EMS provider supports development of younger generation through four-year apprenticeship opportunity’
Newcastle-under-Lyme, UK – November 2018: AWS Electronics Group, one of Europe’s leading Specialist Electronics Manufacturing Services Providers, announces its most recent intake of Advanced Level Apprentices through its partnership with Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group.
Owing to the continued success of the scheme since its launch in 2014, AWS Electronics has increased its intake for 2018/19 to welcome five new apprentices to its UK facility, as they begin their journey towards a Level 3 Engineering Technical Apprenticeship.
New Apprentices: Ben Underwood (back left), Josh Edge (back middle), Tom Morris (back right), Shay Riley (front right), Holly Platt (front middle) and Engineering Manager, Garry Culverwell (front left).
The four-year course offers hands-on engineering experience and skill development across all areas of electronics manufacturing at AWS. Under the supervision of a skilled Electronics or Manufacturing Process Engineer, apprentices take on a variety of responsibilities including: testing and diagnostics; programming; electro-mechanical assembly and monitoring/repairing production process equipment. In addition, all apprentices undertake weekly comprehensive study based on site at Newcastle-under-Lyme College, in order to gain a Level 3 NVQ in Engineering.
Earlier this year, AWS’ first Advanced Level Apprentice, William Edge, successfully completed the course with outstanding feedback from all Area Managers. William has now progressed into a Trainee Engineer role, working alongside Senior Engineers on complex projects.
Group Continuous Improvement Director, Dave Elms, comments: ‘Once again we are pleased to be working alongside Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group on the Advanced Level Apprenticeship. We are excited to welcome Joshua, Tom, Shay, Ben and Holly on board and will ensure they get the very best training and guidance during their time here at AWS.’
