Talented AWS Electronics Apprentice Shortlisted for Prestigious ‘Apprentice of the Year’ 2018/19 Award

Newcastle-under-Lyme, UK – February 2019: AWS Electronics Group, one of Europe’s leading Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) providers, is proud to announce that William Edge has been shortlisted for ‘The Apprentice of the Year’ Award at the 2018/19 Sentinel Business Awards. With a high number of nominations for this award category, William has been chosen as one of the ‘stand-out’ candidates for the final, with the winner to be announced at the impressive Gala event on 28th March 2019 at The King’s Hall in Stoke-on-Trent.

William became the first Advanced Engineering Apprentice at AWS Electronics in 2014, having previously achieved a BTEC in Engineering. The apprenticeship role has involved rotational placements across all areas of AWS’ electronics manufacturing facility, including: engineering; testing; wiring; electro-mechanical assembly; metrology and more. William successfully completed the apprenticeship in April 2018 and is currently shadowing Senior Electronics Engineers in AWS’ Surface Mount Technology hall, working as a Trainee Engineer.

Dave Elms, AWS Group Business Improvement Director, comments, “It has been an absolute pleasure to watch William flourish over the past four years. William has developed an outstanding work ethic over the duration of the course and he is now an invaluable member of the AWS team. We are delighted that he has been shortlisted and wish him the very best of luck for the final at the Gala event. It would be fantastic for William to win something tangible for his efforts, which he can carry forward with him throughout his career.”

AWS Electronics is eager to support the training and development of young engineers, and continues to work alongside Newcastle-under-Lyme College on the Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship Scheme, recently welcoming five new apprentices for its 2018/19 intake.
